The Best App for writing Tablature for me.
I use this app for writing tab for bass guitar. I’ve tried other apps that offer similar functionality. None of them compare to the usability and completeness of TEFPad. There is a bit of a learning curve to get proficient with it. However, the more you use it the faster you get. I feel that there are some things that aren’t covered very well in the user guide. But I still give this app a full 5 stars. Do save your work in progress often, though. Also, the support from the developer is outstanding. Show more

    Not user friendly
The app assumes you know all the musical terms necessary to compose a song. The help function is useless. It throws items on the tab by all by itself, without any explanation as to why, and there is no information to learn from. As an example, trying to match the format of a tab I found in a book, it required a “double line” at the beginning of the measure. I found it in the pallet, tried to add it, but it wouldn’t show up. However, it did randomly place double lines on two other measures in the tab. And now I can’t get rid of them. Oh, how about the app crashing when you print? That’s fun too. Glitchy…but its all we have. Show more

    Not so happy
I was using the lite version and then when I went and upgraded, wow buggy, buggy, buggy. Audio quits playing so I have to restart the app; trying to add song info is very temperamental, adding pull offs to the first couple of notes gives me a tie that spans two bars. It’s a bit clunky as it is with the lite version, but workable. Now very frustrated with the upgrade. Should have stuck with lite. Show more

    Revised Review
Thank you to the developers for your response. It still took me some time to figure out how to get multiple instruments but now that I have the program works for my needs. Show more

    Incredibly useful program
This app is just amazing in terms of what it allows me to do with arranging and playing back music. I wanted an app that would allow me, for guitar, to arrange music that is most often played on keyboards. I also wanted an app that would allow me to keep my files local on my device rather than forcing me to work in the cloud. With support for tablature, this app is great for arranging for guitar but it does a lot more. It would be equally useful arranging for keyboard and seemingly for a band, though I have not tried to arrange for more than one instrument. It plays midi and includes a lot of instruments. It’s ease of use is comparable to other notation softwares I have used. I was hesitant to buy without the ability to check it out with a free trial. It turns out though that, for me, this light version of the program—even without available pro upgrades— is all I will need in a notation program for a long time. I’ll never have to turn on a computer. The help pages are deliberately succinct so there is some amount of trial and error involved in figuring out some features. Overall, however, it’s just a super app. Show more

    Great tool
Help system needs to be improved to get the fifth star. So far search internet has found most of simple needs

    Love it!
Provides everything needed to create tablature. I play the dulcimer and was looking for a way to edit or display tabs only. Simple interface and user friendly. One question though... How do I make the keys (example: DAD) display on sidebar instead of the word TAB?. They show in the preview, but do not export into the final print file. GREAT JOB! Show more

    Dulcimer TAB not working
The tab won’t switch from the standard guitar TAB to dulcimer DAD TAB. I have tried other formats and they also aren’t switching to change the type of TAB displayed. Show more

    Font size is too small
Please tell me if there’s a way to make the font larger on the tablature. It’s too small to read comfortably from a music stand. Also, how can I put a title on the first page? Show more

    Extremly Useful and Helpful app
I've been using the different versions of TablEdit for a few years. I recently upgraded my TEFpad iPad version to TEFPro for IOS devices. Love this program! It has been extremely useful during my practice sessions to help keep my timing on target and also learning backup for new tunes. The few minor issues I have had with the program were found to be caused by settings on my device. BTW, customer support for this app is fantastic. Show more

    Works great for me
I’m not sure what’s up with all the recent negative feedback, because the app works great for me. It took me a little bit to figure out how to do some stuff, but once I messed with it I discovered there is a lot more under the hood than I first realized. Show more

    Virtually unusable for precision practicing
This could be a great app, but if you are looking for a way to easily highlight and repeat a particular passage, you’ll wind up tearing your hair out what should be the most basic of functions is anything but. First, you can’t simply finger drag from point A to B on the staff and press repeat. The drag function is specific to each line of the staff you have to highlight both horizontally and vertically, and the vertical highlighter simply does not work- 9 times out of 10 you miss one, and during playback those notes are muted. Infuriating. This app was designed for something, maybe writing and editing, but as a practice aid, bag it dude. Needs major surgery. Show more

Didn’t know about TEFpad “PRO” till after...w/in App$19.99 huh?
Update! 8/9/18 Careful! They claim this app to be 'the most powerful notion app on iOS' however it was built on a PC Windows platform making it super glitchy for ios an just plain buggy. Also after trying the app I've found that it ain't so everything that the I-app Demo shows, which I think is ridiculous! Saving and Printing is mess meaning it hard to use, but showing the same print window... Just very inconsistent; their website is VERY outdate (2010) with many links dead or in one case after pressing a link I was told I just received a virus! -No joke. Really I won't be so out to put this app down but a after a few emails with the developer (?) I felt I wasn't getting any answers or a sense of confidence for any upgrades to basic things one expects when paying a premium price for app like this -TefPad. Otherwise this may be a helpful app for those owning the TablEdit desktop software (of which the demo I tried and after 3 days (3or 4 hours) I found unbearable to work with... looking for a little of help if away from home...but what I've found is that would be hard to rely on TEFpad app without fear of losing ones hard earned work. -------------- MAybe its just me but I thought I was getting the full feature App after paying the initial $ for the TEFpad, only to find when I wanted to advance feature -cut/copy/past... to different songs... they tell me I have to pony up another $19.99 for the TEFpad”Pro” version. Funny how you can’t find that the Pro version in the Applestore (and yes, after reading the Discription of the TEFpad version they do explain that you can Purchase the Pro version as a in-App Purchase, but doesn’t list how much it cost) but only within the App itself. If I’d known that I would have just paid for the Full Pad Pro from the beginning. Saving me the $ of buying the basic TEFPAD App. Kind of weird. I mean, they have a Free Version; then two Paid versions -with the secondvone being quite limited. Why would anyone think there are to two Paid versions? I mean, just give us the Full on Version and be done with it! I’m just saying - It seems a little misleading to me. Anyway, I think I deserve a refund for the first the TEFpad APP, because as a long time Pro musician, all I need/wanted was the Full “PRO” version. ~ All that aside, I think its a great App that well thought out -and so cool that can import PowerTabs. Recommended. Peace! Show more

A very good app, considering what's available
I found it useful to look things over at the developer's website: there are some important things to keep in mind. I am using a logitech keyboard for my ipad pro, so that will be reflected in what I am about to write. 1. The main feature that is missing from this as is, is the ability to save files you have imported without losing anything beyond the 16th measure. That is compensated by the only in app purchase available, which remedies this, albeit for about $20. 2. While pretty stable, there are some minor bugs. Nothing too harmful, especially since none of them seem to cause problems with the files themselves. All of the minor errors I've encountered thus far have been things like saving the file properly, but for some reason it will display a new blank document for some reason. There are other minor seeming bugs, but I won't go into that any further. 3. The user interface is handy, and powerful for a "lite" version of their main desktop software, but it is indeed a bit cumbersome. It took me a minute to get past the feeling of being overwhelmed, and the lack of a manual demonstrating how to get to all of the important features is somewhat frustrating. There is a significant lack of shortcuts, and the ones that do exist are a bit counterintuitive, at least for me, being a mac user (e.g. "Cmd u" for undo, as opposed to "cmd z", etc.). Also, there are plenty of things which don't exactly amount to "issues", since they can be tolerated, but create a somewhat awkward and patience demanding workflow, such as the inability to copy anything but entire measures, and the lack of a hotkey for copying. That's all just after about 10 minutes of use. I don't mean to be presumptuous, but since the developer hasn't updated the app in about 8 months, maybe don't expect things to change any time soon. There is plenty of legitimacy to what other reviewers have written, I guess I am just a bit more favorable to this app since there is such an appalling lack of affordable and functional music notation apps for ipad. Since I am using a keyboard, it is a huge deal for me that this app offers support for keyboard input for notes. Although, it's more a combination, since it does not allow for changing note duration via the keyboard, so I have to use the touch screen as well. Finally, for anyone familiar with it, the app is very similar to tuxguitar, albeit seemingly with a lot of fine tuning. It is somewhat frustrating to see the striking similarities, and the areas where subtle changes would improve the usability tenfold, but my opinion remains that this is a pretty solid app. Just expect that you'll have to figure most of the functionality out yourself, unless you're already familiar with the desktop version. TEFpad
I recently purchased Tab Edit for my lap top and found it an amazing tool for learning songs. I liked it so much I got the IOS verson as well. The loop function allows a few notes, a measure or an entire passage to be repeated and easily learned. The support from the creators is personal and hands on. I had a few hicups at first but after a couple of prompt emails the issues were worked out...and the problem was not Tab Edit but a program running in the background. I highly recommend TEF Show more

    Waste of money
I was looking for something that would be intuitive to learn and easy to use. This was not it. Forget it.

This app seems to want to automatically add rest to the score, which it is completely incapable of doing correctly. The app is not usable.
