Huge disappointment. I've elected to just use BIAB on my notebook computer.

    Used Spashtop to play Band-in-a-box
I have the app on an iPhone 4 and an iPad 3. To get the app to work, I had some annoying technical hurdles to overcome. I expect that many will not like it for that reason. But I got it to work on Wi-Fi and 3G. For me, the big issue is this. I'm going to use Splashtop to play Band-in-a-box (BIAB) on my devices. Splashtop gives me 3-4G and Wi-Fi access to my desktop on my iPhone and iPad. That means I have access to the full BIAB program on my computer (and everything else). I set up Splashtop on my iPhone and iPad, and it was much easier for me. Using Splashtop, I was able to use BIAB on both devices and over 3G on my iPhone. Splashtop sends high definition audio, and BIAB sounded fine over my devices. It sounded very good over a home stereo using 3G on my iPhone. Maybe the sound quality might not be good enough for some pro purposes, but one needs to test it out to see. Anyway, I have access to my desktop, so it is possible to render a file and send it to myself. So Splashtop (it was only $1.99 for my iPhone) might be a superior alternative for some, like me. Bad app
App did not function on my iPhone even though Band-in-a-Box works great on my PC. I would suggest no one waste their money on this app.

    Could Be Better!!
I already have BB on my computer. I think it's a tremendous practice tool. I use it all the time. Thinking that this app would be a great practice tool as well while I'm on the go, traveling or waiting on the gig, or vacationing. . . etc. I understand the purpose for using the band in the box server to load up your arrangements. I'm all in favor for protecting software piracy or even song file piracy. However, I do not see the point of not being able to change the key, tempo or audio, volume settings or any parameters of a song file once it's loaded to the mobile app. Once you load the song from your computer to your mobile app, you can't make changes to these parameters. It would be a more useful tool if I were able to change the tempo on a set of changes I'm working on, or the key. At least. What a waist of time!! Why do I want to use the mobile app only at home when I can use the BB on my home computer? Ridiculous IMHO. Please make changes. I only upgraded to your 2012 software so I can utilize the mobile app and continue to practice these progressions while traveling. Thank You. Show more

    I like it
PG Music could do itself a favor by giving more detail on what this app does and doesn't do. From the looks of the negative reviews, people are expecting an app which generates the accompaniment for you like iRealbook. This app doesn't. It plays BiaB accompaniment generated on your home computer. If iPhones had 50GB storage to store all the BB RealTracks, I could understand this complaint. I admire iRealbook for what it is, but personally I prefer the superior sounds of Band in a Box with RealTracks, and love the convenience of having those sounds on my iPhone. This app is just what I need. Show more

    it has potential
I give it a temporary 2 stars because of function vs. potential. as already stated, you have to have BiaB 11 for it to do anything, which I'm ok with, it's a very in depth program to be a 99 cent app. but, it should just be able to sync with the program to verify you have it, and from there allow customizations on the phone. as it is now, you can't even change key without being on the server, you might as well just use your computer. next update should allow you to modify your songs while your out without an Internet connection. Solid BIAB playback
Performed live with this app yesterday as backing for accoustic piano. The sound was good and the playback went off without any hiccups. My iPod was connected to a keyboard amp. There were no problems with tempo, skips or scrathiness. I got the songs the way I wanted in BIAB with my studio set up before I loaded them on the iPod. I really would rather not do any editing on my iPod. BIAB Conductor features in the app like the Go To and the Loop would really be a nice addition to this app. Bottom line is that it is really cool to be able to have my BIAB backing with just my iPod and an 1/8" cable with good sound and confidence in the playback. Very disappointing
If you're wondering whether this app has *any* stand-alone functionality, the answer is no. If you are not running a BIAB 2011 for Windows system, all you'll be able to do with this app is edit and save (but not play) chord charts and play the demo audio files. Sorry BIAB fans, but this ain't the iOS app we've been waiting for from PG Music. What did you expect for a buck? ;-) While we wait for PG Music to deliver a *real* implemetation of BIAB for iOS, iRealBook is the next best thing. Given the rate at which Massimo has added enhancements to iRealBook since its first release, there's a good chance he'll beat PG Music at its own game in the long run. He certainly has a good head start, and BIAB for iPhone demonstrates that PG Music still has a long way to go. Show more
